America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024

By Newsweek Rankings

In today's corporate landscape, diversity is a widely discussed topic. Employers highlight their commitment to recruiting and advancing individuals of various ages, races, genders, sexual orientations and abilities. Companies recognize that a diverse workforce contributes significantly to organizational success. Diverse workforces cultivate creativity and innovation that stem from a mix of perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds, fostering a dynamic environment where new ideas come to life.

Companies also value diversity for its positive impact on talent attraction and retention. In a globalized job market, attracting diverse, skilled professionals is vital for staying competitive. Job seekers, particularly younger generations, seek employers that prioritize diversity and inclusion. Employees are more likely to stay with a company that nurtures an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued—contributing to higher levels of job satisfaction and reducing turnover rates.

While the attention on diversity has surged among companies, it can be challenging for job seekers, customers and potential partners to discern which organizations are genuinely dedicated to supporting a diverse workforce. In response, Newsweek and market data research firm Plant-A Insights Group are proud to present, for the second year, America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024, featuring the top large and mid-size companies recognized by their employees for genuinely respecting and valuing individuals from different walks of life.

Our scoring process involved a thorough examination of publicly available data, interviews with HR professionals, and an anonymous online survey conducted among a diverse group of employees at companies in the U.S. Respondents shared insights into corporate culture, working environments and other aspects of both their own companies and others they were familiar with, resulting in over 1.5 million company reviews.

The winning companies are categorized into 78 industries. We recognize large companies with more than 5,000 employees and mid-size companies that employ more than 1,000 people but fewer than 5,000. Notably, the top-scoring companies on our list represent a diverse array of businesses, including A+E Networks, American Savings Bank, Boeing, Live Nation, PDQ and SurveyMonkey, to name a few.

Whether you're a job applicant, a consumer or a business collaborator, we hope you find this listing helpful.

METHODOLOGY

Companies

Companies that acknowledge diversity and institute measures to nurture inclusive work environments are well-poised for the future. Extensive research indicates that when individuals with diverse perspectives collaborate, it enhances creativity and innovation, contributing to effective decision-making within the workforce. Additionally, organizations embracing diversity tend to capitalize on expanded market opportunities and exhibit enhanced competitiveness in attracting candidates who thoroughly investigate potential employers.

The methodology for America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024 is based on a five-part evaluation.

The first was a pre-study survey that interviewed HR professionals to identify current and future employee satisfaction drivers.

The second phase was the main employee survey, which interviewed employees to review employers they were familiar with. The independent study is based on more than 220,000 interviews and more than 1.5 million company reviews collected in 2022 and 2023. During this survey, we collected demographic information from respondents, which we then used to weigh responses from diverse target groups.

The third phase was an elaborate desk research project in which we collected more than 20 diversity KPIs (e.g. diversity ratio, diversity reviews and information from social media platforms).

In the fourth phase, we applied a media monitoring project, reviewing all published press of the past 24 months (12/9/2021 – 12/10/2023) of all recognized companies to identify potential legal disputes around the workplace.

The fifth step was the validation step. We calculated an individual company diversity score based on our scoring model. The best companies in the tiers of 5,000+ employees and 1,000 to 4,999 employees have been recognized as "America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024."
