The New York Yankees continue to be linked to rumors surrounding some of the top players available in free agency, which has led to one of the team's recent moves going under the radar.

Although the Yankees continued to be linked to players like Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette and Cody Bellinger, the team made a smaller move on Tuesday by officially signing right-handed pitcher Bradley Hanner to a minor league contract, according to the team's official transactions log on MLB.com.

Hanner was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 2019 MLB draft, but has yet to reach the majors. After being waived by the Twins in 2022, the 26-year-old hurler joined the Cleveland Guardians, making it as high as Triple-A in the organization, yet never getting an opportunity in the big leagues.

Though he struggled in Triple-A this season with a 4.74 ERA across 42 appearances, Hanner struck out 62 batters and boasts a nasty sweeper. In May, MLB.com's Sam Dykstra stated how Hanner's sweeper is one of the most interesting pitches in Triple-A, averaging nearly 21 inches of movement, and is great against right-handed batters.

New York's bullpen was one of its biggest weaknesses in the postseason, and that was before the team lost Luke Weaver and Devin Williams in free agency. Though Hanner lacks big-league experience, he could be a valuable depth piece moving forward.

Hanner's signing came with an invitation to the spring training, per the New York Post's Joel Sherman, giving the 26-year-old an opportunity to prove his worth to the Yankees early on and compete for a spot in the big leagues next season.
