The New York Yankees were seemingly one of the top landing spots in a potential trade for Miami Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera. But earlier this week, Cabrera was reportedly traded to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for a haul of prospects.
Now the Yankees will need to pivot to a new starter if they want to upgrade their pitching rotation this winter. There are some options in free agency, but it seems like the Yankees could be looking to swing a trade for an additional ace.
Jackson Roberts of Fastball OnSi predicted the Yankees would swing a big offseason trade for Washington Nationals ace MacKenzie Gore this winter.

"The No. 1 upset fan base about the Cabrera trade was New York Yankees fans," Roberts wrote. "Rumors were swirling early in the week about the Yankees being hot to trot about trading for Cabrera, but on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the Bronx Bombers weren't even close.
"However, now that the chess pieces have started moving, the Yankees know what the price of starting pitching on the trade market looks like, and acquiring Gore, the Washington Nationals' All-Star from this past season, would give them one of the most formidable rotations in the sport."
Gore could be the perfect target for the Yankees.
He's very talented and only getting better. This lines him up to hit his prime when pitchers like Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon begin to fall off a bit.
The Yankees have the money to sign Gore to a massive contract extension in the coming years, too, but they wouldn't need to worry about that right now.
