In a viral TikTok video a woman from Texas went to a Pet Smart to get some litter for her cat, but she ended up leaving with a second feline instead.

The heartwarming clip, shared in February by the woman's friend @lillvo, who joined her to get litter for her own cats, shows the two women leaving the pet supply store with two bags of litter, and a big black cat in a cardboard box.

"POV: you go to Pet Smart for cat litter but end up adopting a cat", reads layover text in the video.

The poster, 27-year-old Lillian Vo, told Newsweek that she and her friend Arynn were buying litter for their cats when they jokingly decided to have a look at the kitties available for adoption. But as soon as they saw the cats their plans changed.

"We ended up seeing Bear (kitty in video) and fell in love. My friend and I were debating who was going to adopt him. Since I already have 3 cats, I told my friend Arynn she should adopt one so her cat could have a sibling!" she said.

"We notified the employee she was interested in adopting Bear. We met him and she fell in love! Signed the paper work and she took him home."

Bear is now living his best life with his brother Channing who is a Scottish fold, and has slowly become his best friend.

"It took a week to introduce them to each other and now they're the best brothers. Bear likes to act like a puppy, makes messes but is so sweet and loves to snuggle," she added.

As a cat owner you may wonder if your cat needs to socialize with other felines the way we need to socialize with other humans, and that usually depends on the cat and their personality.

According to an article in Catster, medically reviewed by Dr. Marta Vidal-Abarca, because of their flexible social structure, cats are fine with or without other feline companions.

Those who are used to interacting with look-alike companions may sometimes miss this social aspect of their life when becoming an only pet, however, felines who have always been only pets are likely to be fine on their own.

If your pet needs a companion, they will show signs, which according to Pet MD include clinginess, eating and/or sleeping disorders, destructive behavior, litterbox issues, and a shift in their energy levels—all signs that your cat may need a new friend.
