A woman who peeked at her home’s security camera while her boyfriend was looking after their dog was left stunned—and touched—by what she saw.
In a TikTok video, she revealed the moment her boyfriend ushered her sausage dog into the house by following him closely with an umbrella. The clip has received thousands of views since it was posted, leaving TikTok users in awe of her boyfriend's dedication and care for the tiny pup.
"POV [point of view]: you check your Ring camera while your boyfriend and sausage dog are home alone," the owner captioned the video. "Tell me you have a sausage dog, without telling me you have a sausage dog. Anything to get him to pee outside in the rain."

In the short clip, her boyfriend can be seen bending down to shield their small dachshund with an umbrella while it scampers back toward the house, clearly desperate to avoid getting wet.
Viewers couldn’t get enough of the sweet gesture—or the stubbornness of small dogs in bad weather. One wrote: "The struggle is real. Ours doesn’t want to stay A SECOND outside if it’s raining." Another added: "Hands down the biggest green flag I’ve ever seen. Do not let this man go!"
Some commenters even admitted they had gone to similar lengths themselves.
"I’m afraid to admit I have to [do] this, but it’s worse," one person shared. "I have to carry the little swine to the tree while holding the umbrella in case he gets his pawsies wet."
Another joked: "No, but I completely get it, because drying a tiny idiot after they’ve spent 20 minutes looking for the right place to wee is not the one."
A blog post from the American Kennel Club (AKC) says that this kind of behavior is extremely common among dogs, especially smaller breeds.
"Do you have a dog who dislikes or even refuses to go outside in bad weather to relieve themself? You aren’t alone," the post read. "Dogs refusing to go outside and potty in the rain, wind, snow or other inclement weather is a common challenge that can be frustrating for owners."

The AKC post noted that, while some dogs are unbothered, others may hold their bladder or even attempt to relieve themselves inside if the weather is unpleasant. The reasons range from disliking raindrops falling on their bodies to discomfort with wet ground under their feet. Smaller dogs, the blog added, are often the most reluctant since they are closer to the ground and get cold more quickly.
Experts recommend patience, rewards and even rain gear to help reluctant pups adjust. Raincoats, boots or finding shelter under trees or patios can make all the difference. Pairing outdoor potty breaks with play, treats, or praise can also create more positive associations.
For this dachshund, though, nothing beats a patient owner—and, in this case, a boyfriend with an umbrella.
