What To Know
Around 4:50 p.m. local time, there were reports of an active shooting in the area. Rose was fired upon and killed by the shooter near the CDC headquarters.
The gunman was found on the second floor of the CVS on the Emory University campus across the street from the CDC campus and died at the scene, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said on Friday night.
He said, "We do not know at this time whether that was from officers or if it was self-inflicted." Officials said the gunman's motive remains unknown at this time.
White was a resident of Kennesaw, which sits about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta, the GBI said in a Saturday press release.
Who Was Officer David Rose?
Rose, 33, was shot while responding to the gunfire, the DeKalb County Police Department said in a news release. He was transported to nearby Emory University Hospital where he died of his injuries.
Rose had been with the police department since September 2024 and graduated from the police academy in March, the police department said in a news release. Rose was a former Marine who served in Afghanistan, according to the Associated Press.
He leaves behind a wife and two children, with a third on the way.
Interim Police Chief Greg Patrick said Rose "was committed to serving the community."

The GBI is still investigating the shooting, saying in a Friday statement: "There is extensive evidence to collect due to the complex scene."
