Hello, I'm Shane Croucher. Welcome to Newsweek's Bulletin. Here's what you need to know today. OpenAI is scrapping the planned release of its next-generation AI model after researchers raised safety concerns during internal testing. An OpenAI spokesperson told Newsweek that safety leaders made the decision not to ship GPT 6.1 Astra, which was set for an October debut. The decision comes amid growing concerns about whether AI safety measures can keep pace with the technology's rapid development. The spokesperson told Newsweek that OpenAI has other new models coming very soon that meet its safety standards. President Donald Trump called the Protect College Sports Act a really big deal after the Senate passed the legislation by 77 votes to 22 on Monday. It would create national rules governing how college athletes are paid, how they can make money from their name, image and likeness, and when they can transfer between schools. The bill would set a limit on how much schools can directly pay athletes through revenue sharing while creating new federal rules for NIL deals. Athletes would generally be allowed one transfer without losing a year of eligibility with a five-year limit on eligibility. A new possible ransom note related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation has emerged, the Pima County Sheriff's Department has said. They said the Guthrie Task Force has recently been made aware of the potential note nearly eight months after Guthrie's disappearance. Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of today's show host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on January 31st at her home in Tucson, Arizona. Until next time, that's all for now.
