Good morning, I'm Shane Croucher. Welcome to Newsweek's Bulletin. Here's what you need to know today. The political influence of New York City Mayor Zoran Ramdani is growing after a closely watched around with congressional primaries, where his indoor seas emerged victorious. The races highlighted the battle between the Democratic Party's progressive and establishment wings, with implications for the party's future in New York and beyond. In Asia, a key US ally is claiming a diplomatic victory over China in the disputed South China Sea. The Philippines says Beijing removed a floating barrier from a contested reef after international pressure, marking a significant development in the ongoing territorial dispute. A new national poll suggests many Americans remain unconvinced about the outcome of the recent conflict with Iran. According to the survey, only about one quarter of respondents believe the United States won the war, highlighting lingering questions about the conflict's impacts and objectives. Meanwhile, President Trump says the Strait of Hormuz remains open for shipping following the ceasefire agreement that ended the Iran War. The strategic waterways vital to global energy markets and remains at the centre of regional security concerns. And a new United Nations inquiry reports that nearly one-third of those killed in Gaza since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas were children. The findings are likely to intensify international scrutiny of the conflict and its humanitarian toll. Until next time, that's all for now.
