The hearts of internet viewers have collectively melted over a sweet clip of a dog immediately bonding with her new puppy sibling.

Peney the German shepherd had been the only dog in her home, until her owners took in a puppy whom they named Riley. A video of Peney and Riley's first meeting was filmed and shared in full to the owner's TikTok account, @whitneylauren846.

Posted on January 22, the clip has racked up over 20,000 likes and more than 254,000 views, as followers commented on the "perfect" introduction between the two animals. Newsweek has contacted @whitneylauren846 on TikTok for comment on this story.

It shows their owner opening the door that leads to the garden, and Peney the German shepherd comes rushing out of the house, first sniffing around the grass before she realizes where the scent is coming from—a tiny puppy, being held in a man's arms.

He kneels down to allow the two dogs to sniff at each other, Peney's tail wagging gently, and Riley the puppy is eager to get out and play. As she clambers out of her owner's arms, she and Peney sniff at each other once more—and then the older dog takes on a playful stance, running off as Riley chases her.

The duo then start a game of chase, Peney showing the puppy the ropes as she encourages her to follow her. And when she runs back toward Riley, the puppy rolls on her belly submissively.

Their video ends with a short clip of the two dogs, tuckered out after playing in the garden, asleep side-by-side in the house.

TikTok users loved the sweet video, with one writing: "I don't think that could have gone better. Perfect body language from both puppy and dog."

Another agreed, posting: "the puppy submitting on its back saying hi I'm just a baby!"

"Aaawww they're so excited to meet one another I love it," one comment read, as another called them "instant buddies" and another declared them "besties for life."

Owners should take steps when introducing a dog to a new puppy, with the American Kennel Club advising that the first meeting should take place outside of the home.

Initial meetings should be supervised, and if the elder dog is becoming agitated, they should be separated or distracted before trying again later. The older canine should still get plenty of one-on-one attention.

The dogs, who live in Austin, Texas, have since strengthened their bond, with their TikTok account filled with videos of the dogs playing, napping and going on adventures together.

And when Texas recently got a rare flurry of snow, the dog and puppy—who is growing fast, and has almost caught up with her big sister's size—got to experience their first-ever snow day.
