A recent Reddit picture of two dogs has left readers utterly confused about where on earth the second dog is in the photo.

Owner Matthijs Delvers told Newsweek via Reddit messaging that he was on his way home when his wife sent him the picture of the two Labradors. She told him that both dogs were waiting for him.

But, like Reddit users, Delvers was baffled because he saw only one dog in the photo.

"I was so surprised because my wife didn't do it on purpose," Delvers said. "I immediately sent it to friends and asked them if they could see it. Their reactions were so nice that I shared the picture in the Labrador Reddit and Facebook page."

How long did you stare at the photo until you found the second dog? If it took longer than you'd like to admit, don't worry because you aren't the only one.

One Reddit user commented: "I almost gave up. And then I saw two pups. Well done." Others were saying they were looking for a hidden black Labrador in the dark part of the photo. A user called it "pupception," saying there is no other way to describe this photo.

If you're still searching for the second dog, maybe user theAshleyRouge's comment will help. It reads: "I spy two snoots." (Hint: look at the snoot!)

Why Do Dogs Wait for Their Owners?

Although these two Labradors were prepared for Delvers to return because his wife told them, plenty of dogs do not get a heads up. Instead, they'll wait nonstop by the window or door for their owners.

A dog will wait for its owner's return simply because it enjoys human interaction. When the owner finally comes home, the pet may receive food and treats as well as love and affection. Dogs actively seek and are generally happier with human contact. In fact, human interaction can create a "reward response" in dogs, according to an article on the Wag! website.

The article quotes a study by Swedish researchers Therese Rehn and Linda Keeling, who found that a dog will be more excited after an owner is away for two or four hours. However, the level of enthusiasm can differ based on the dog's energy level and personality.

If you ever wondered how a dog knows you arrived home, it's because it is smarter than you think. Dogs can distinguish their owner's car. They also might pick up your scent or they have learned your schedule and can plan for your arrival.

Delvers shared with Newsweek a picture of Max and Ivy as proof he has two dogs. Good thing, because with today's Photoshop capabilities you never know what is real and what is not.
