John Cena's retirement tour is almost at its end, with just less than three months remaining. While his final match is set for December 13th, WWE might be planning one last historic championship run for the 17-time world champion.
According to a new report, a match between Cena and the current Intercontinental Champion, Dominik Mysterio, is being considered for after the Crown Jewel premium live event. The potential bout would give Cena the opportunity to win the one championship that has eluded him his entire career.
A Potential John Cena Title Match
The report from Bodyslam.net states that the company is looking into a program between John Cena and Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship. A match between the legendary veteran and the young, top heel would be a high-profile encounter for the final stretch of Cena's farewell tour.

For Mysterio, a member of The Judgment Day, a program with a star of Cena's caliber would be a way to boost his credibility as a champion. For Cena, the stakes are even higher.
The Grand Slam Quest for John Cena
The Intercontinental Championship is the only title that John Cena has not held in his decorated, 23-year career. A victory over Dominik Mysterio would make John Cena a WWE Grand Slam Champion, one of the highest honors a superstar can achieve. The accomplishment requires a wrestler to win a top world championship, a tag team championship, and both the United States and Intercontinental championships.
Cena is already a two-time tag team champion and a five-time United States Champion. Winning the Intercontinental title would be the final piece of the puzzle and a fitting final accomplishment for his legendary career.

John Cena's Busy Farewell Tour
Before any potential match with Mysterio, John Cena has another dream match on his schedule. It was recently confirmed via a social media post from Triple H that Cena will face his longtime rival, AJ Styles, at the Crown Jewel premium live event in Saudi Arabia on October 11th.
With only a handful of dates remaining in his career, every match is a noteworthy event. The possibility of one last title run and a Grand Slam victory has the wrestling world buzzing.
