Recently, WWE has had unfortunate luck with injuries.

This includes former Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley, who has been written off television with a fractured right orbital socket, as well as former WWE Champion AJ Styles, who suffered a Lisfranc injury during a match with Carmelo Hayes.

Now, it looks like another former world champion will be taking some time of WWE TV.

WWE Randy Orton

...

WWE took to social media to announce that 14-time world champion Randy Orton has suffered a spinal injury.

After last night's brutal attack by [Kevin Owens] on Smackdown, [Randy Orton] has been diagnosed with a cervical cord neurapraxia," WWE said. "There is no timetable for his return."

This comes after Orton took a piledriver from Owens on SmackDown, a move that has long been banned from WWE for the potential damage it could cause to an opponent's spine.

Orton was carried off in a stretcher after the attack, but most fans suspected that it was part of his feud with Owens and not a legitimate injury.

According to the National Library of Medicine, cervical cord neurapraxia is a common sports-related injury that is defined as "a transient neurological deficit following trauma localizing to the cervical spinal cord and can be caused by hyperextension, hyperflexion, or axial load mechanisms."

While symptoms usually last less than 15 minutes, they can last up to 48 hours for adults.

"Treatment is usually supportive, but in adults with focal cervical lesions or instability, surgery is an option."

Orton has had a history of back issues, having recently taken off a long period of time to recover.

Orton has been with WWE since 2000 and was quickly elevated to main event status.

The son of Cowboy Bob Orton, Randy first came to prominence as a member of the Evolution stable alongside Triple H, Ric Flair, and Batista. He would go on to win the World Heavyweight Championship, making him the youngest world champion in WWE history at 24 years old.

Orton would go on to hold the World Heavyweight Championship four times and the WWE Championship 10 times, engaging in memorable feuds with John Cena, Undertaker, Mick Foley, Edge (Adam Copeland), and Triple H.
