An NXT star has pitched to be the final opponent for John Cena, labelling himself as the future face of WWE. Cena only has five appearances left on his WWE retirement tour, with his next being at Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia on October 11, where he will face AJ Styles.

His final match will be at WWE "Saturday Night’s Main Event" on December 13, which hasn’t been officially announced but is reportedly planned for Washington, DC.

Trick Williams On Retiring John Cena

Speaking on Booker T’s “Hall of Fame” podcast, current TNA World Champion and NXT star Trick Williams suggested he should be the man to face Cena in Cena’s final match if Cena wants it to be a passing of the torch moment.

Williams said, “To be honest with you, I can’t think of one man better for the job than me. We’re talking about a guy who put the business on his back for a long time, and his last match needs to be with a guy who can handle that weight, who can handle that pressure. We’re talking about the future, we’re talking about the guy that’s gonna be carrying the brand for a long time, 10+ years in the game in the future – I am that guy.

“Undoubtedly, undeniably, I am the future of WWE. So if John Cena wants to pass the torch forward to a guy who can carry the weight, Trick Williams is that guy.”

Whoop That Trick

Trick Williams has become one of the most popular and charismatic stars in all of WWE during his run in NXT. His "Whoop That Trick" catchphrase and infectious energy have made him a fan favorite.

He has also shown his main event potential, holding the NXT Championship and, through the "forbidden door" partnership, the TNA World Championship. A "passing of the torch" match against a legend like John Cena would be a star-making moment for the up-and-coming superstar.
