GUNTHER could be without a WrestleMania 42 match unless Rey Mysterio is medically cleared in time.
According to sources speaking to Bodyslam, the original creative direction for GUNTHER had him transitioning from his feud with Dragon Lee into a program with Mysterio, culminating in a match at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. Those plans were thrown into doubt when Mysterio suffered a rib injury ahead of the Royal Rumble.
Mysterio has since confirmed the extent of the injury, revealing he fractured ribs on both sides of his body on January 26, the Monday leading into the Royal Rumble. Despite the severity, he made the trip to Saudi Arabia and entered the Men's Royal Rumble match just days later and has not competed since.

Speaking at a WWE community event in Las Vegas, Mysterio offered a cautiously optimistic update on his recovery. "Much better than when it actually happened," he said, though he stopped short of confirming he would be ready to compete in time for WrestleMania.
GUNTHER was last seen on the March 2 edition of Raw, where he defeated Dragon Lee. He has not appeared on WWE programming since. According to WrestleVotes Radio, GUNTHER's creative status heading into WrestleMania is currently listed as undetermined internally, with no single opponent confirmed.

The Ring General has been on one of the most dominant runs in WWE in recent memory. Over the past year, he has retired Goldberg, forced John Cena to tap out in his final match, and ended AJ Styles' career at the Royal Rumble 2026 Premium Live Event. Each of those moments contributed to his growing reputation as the company's Career Killer, making a match against a legend like Mysterio a natural next step in that story.
WrestleVotes has reported that the three candidates currently under consideration for GUNTHER's WrestleMania 42 opponent are Rey Mysterio, Oba Femi, and Brock Lesnar. With Femi already accepted Lesnar's open challenge, the field of realistic options may be narrowing. If Mysterio is not cleared in time, GUNTHER's WrestleMania status remains in question with less than five weeks until the show.
WrestleMania 42 takes place April 18-19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
