Ewers has emerged as one of the better quarterbacks in college football over the past two seasons. He had a breakout year last season, helping Texas reach the College Football Playoff.
He led Texas to a record of 10-2, completing 69 percent of his passes for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions. The signal-caller picked this season up where he left off, throwing for 691 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions.
Before leaving the game against UTSA, Ewers was putting together a strong game. He completed 14 of 16 passes for 185 yards, throwing two touchdowns.

If Ewers can't go this weekend, backup Arch Manning would get his chance to start for Texas. Manning came in for Ewers this weekend after he got hurt and provided an instant spark to the offensive attack.
He threw for 223 yards with four touchdowns through the air. Manning also rushed for 53 yards and one score on the ground.
His dual-threat ability makes Manning a different type of quarterback than Ewers, giving the Texas offense another gear. The Longhorns may elect to sit Ewers this weekend to make sure his injury heals fully.
The redshirt freshman reflected on his strong day for Texas.
"Obviously there's a lot to improve on and grow from," Manning said, "but I'm glad I got to get in there and get hit again and feel what it's like."
The last thing Texas wants is to have Ewers get hurt any worse than he already is. Plus, Manning has proved that he is more than capable of running this offense at a high level.
Texas has championship aspirations for this season so protecting their starter at all costs is crucial. Following their game with Louisiana Monroe, the Longhorns will host Mississippi State for their first SEC game of the season.
