The latest rumor circulating the F1 paddock is Max Verstappen's potential move to Aston Martin. This comes after the announcement earlier this week that former Red Bull technical director Adrian Newey has signed with Aston Martin as managing technical partner. Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has addressed these rumors, hinting that the three-time champion could in fact follow the influential designer.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Marko commented to Kleine Zeitung:

"Max drives where he can win. Aston Martin has the most modern factory, the wind tunnel will be operational next year and Honda engines will be added to that.

"Everything fits. And if you look at history, it is clear: wherever Newey has gone, there has been an upward trend. I don't know why it should be any different at Aston Martin."

Aston Martin has been bolstering its technical team with the likes of Enrico Cardile from Ferrari and Newey as managing technical partner. The latter's involvement is particularly noteworthy; Newey's history of fostering upward trends in every team he's been part of could herald a new era of success for Aston Martin.

Marko continued:

"He knows that he can win titles with us too if we can get through this world championship now. That is also an absolute must.

"Adrian Newey cannot start until March 1, 2025, which is already relatively late. The whole team at Aston Martin certainly needs to get used to each other first."

Adding to Red Bull's challenges is their recent performance dip; they have not clinched a victory since Verstappen's win at the Spanish GP, seven races ago. Teams like McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari are the current pace-setters, casting doubt over Red Bull's competitive edge.

The anticipated technical regulation changes in 2026 further complicate the future. These changes, coupled with Red Bull's new partnership with Ford for power units, may prove risky given Ford's inexperience with modern F1 engines. In contrast, Aston Martin's prospects look robust with a planned Honda-powered, Newey-designed car.
