The accident sent ripples through the sports world, especially in the NFL. Jackson had been drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft with pick No. 108. The Vikings had plenty of faith in the young cornerback, who was already being slated to win a starting job in the secondary.

Now, the Vikings are set to honor the draftee in a special way for the upcoming 2024 NFL season. The team announced that decals with the initials "KJ" will adorn every helmet.
The Vikings also announced that his No. 31 jersey and locker will go unused, along with the team paying Jackson's $827,148 signing bonus to his estate.
According to Kevin Seifert, "The Vikings will pay Jackson's signing bonus of $827,148 to his estate. The team says it's "our understanding" that the NFLPA will support his estate as well."
Siefert also revealed the team plans to cover a "significant" portion of the expenses needed for his funeral.
"The Vikings will cover a "significant" portion of the expenses for Khyree Jackson's funeral, per the team. It's scheduled for this Friday. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Kevin O'Connell, Brian Flores, Matt Daniels, and Daronte Jones will be among the contingent attending," Seifert posted.
Jackson played college football at Alabama and Oregon before he was taken by the Vikings in the fourth round.
While at Alabama, Jackson had his first career start in the 2021 National Championship versus Georgia. During his two seasons with the Crimson Tide, he secured 14 tackles and two passes defended.
In the 2022 season, Jackson was suspended by head coach Nick Saban for undisclosed reasons. Following the 2022 season, Jackson entered the transfer portal. He would land in Oregon, where he had his most successful season.
While playing in Oregon, Jackson rebounded his collegiate career and secured 34 tackles, three interceptions, and seven passes defended — which are all career highs.
The Vikings are honoring Jackson in the best way possible. The hope is his family can find some sort of solace in the gestures that the Vikings are providing.
