The Baltimore Ravens made headlines Thursday evening by naming Jesse Minter as their next head coach. Minter most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers.

This marks a return to Baltimore for Minter, who spent four seasons on John Harbaugh’s staff before eventually joining Harbaugh’s brother, Jim, at both Michigan — where he helped the team win a national championship in 2023 — and the Chargers.

“I am truly honored to serve as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens,” Minter said. “This is an organization whose values, culture, and tradition of excellence reflect everything I believe about the game of football and how it should be played.”

Interestingly enough, comments resurfaced on social media after the hire from Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who got to Minter quite well as the opposition as he faced the Chargers twice a year over the two seasons.

"And to be honest, that dude he has got [explicative] figured out," Kelce said on the 'New Heights' podcast. "I mean I was taking to Pat and there was one time in the game and there was a big third down and he had put together a blitz that we had not seen before on tape. And got us pretty good there. Shout out to Jesse, he's absolutely killing it. Coach Minter, couldn't be more proud to say that I was once your scout team quarterback."

Early in his career, Minter served as a graduate assistant at Cincinnati for two seasons, 2007 and 2008, which overlapped with Kelce’s freshman season with the Bearcats — giving the two a connection from over a decade ago.
