Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs is 36 years old, and that's certainly an appropriate age to retire in the NFL. But Kelce hasn't announced whether he's retiring from professional football yet, and he's still making that decision.

Kelce is rounding out a season where he posted 76 catches for 851 yards and five touchdowns, according to NFL research. It wasn't his top numbers, but those are still solid numbers for a tight end in the NFL. So, will he end on this note?

Ahead of the Chiefs' game on Christmas Day against the Denver Broncos, Kelce sat down with NFL legend Tony Gonzalez to talk about his career and upcoming retirement decision.

Now, Gonzalez is shedding light on his interpretation of Kelce's comments during that interview. Gonzalez is also being honest about whether he thinks Kelce has even made up his mind yet.

"I think I'm still searching for those answers," Kelce said when asked about the decision at the time. "Obviously, the way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth."

Kelce went on to say, "I feel motivated, but I've got to make the right decision for me. I've got to hope that if I do want to come back, the Chiefs are willing to bring me back. It's a two-way street on that."

Gonzalez spoke with DJ Siddiqi of Card Player about the Kelce interview in a piece out on Thursday. In the story, Gonzalez gets candid about Kelce's retirement decision.

"I did an interview with him on Christmas, sat down with him, spent some time with him after that on a personal level, and I really believe — he said it in the interview — he's like, 'I really don't know,'" Gonzalez said in the interview with Siddiqi. "I believe him."

Gonzalez added, "Even in the interview, I was kind of like, 'Come on, you know a little bit, you got to know something.'"

"You get players out there like Jerry Rice," Gonzalez also said. "His advice to me was, 'Play until the wheels fall off.' He is somebody that needed football. I think that's the question Travis has got to ask himself. 'Do I need this, or do I want this?' Because if you want it, I don’t know if that's a strong enough reason."

Gonzalez added, "I think when you want something, it's different than needing it. He doesn't need it, he doesn’t. Why would you come back? That's the question."

As the weeks go by, it gets more obvious that Kelce himself is struggling with this retirement decision.
