Training camp is officially underway for several NFL teams while others will be easing into camp throughout the next week.

The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers kick off the 2026 preseason with their Hall of Fame Game clash on Thursday, Aug. 6 on NBC, and Week 1 of the preseason officially kicks off the following week on Aug. 13.

As we count down the days until the start of the NFL regular season — which kicks off with a Super Bowl LX rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots on “Sunday Night Football” on Sept. 9 — we continue to look at key offseason storylines for each of the league’s 32 teams.

This week, we’re looking as the players most in danger of being cut during the preseason, and we’ve arrived at the Buffalo Bills.

Ty Johnson, RB

The Bills are pretty well set at running back with James Cook and Ray Davis as the top two ball-carriers, leaving Johnson, Frank Gore Jr. and Ian Wheeler set to battle it out for likely one spot.

Johnson has been in the NFL for eight years, and he’s never totaled more than 273 yards rushing or three touchdowns in any season. Gore Jr. had just one catch for six yards as a rookie last year, but he put up monster numbers in his last two years at Southern Miss (2,513 yards rushing, 19 touchdowns) and he has potential yet to reach while Johnson is what he is at this point.

Parting ways with Johnson will save Buffalo $2.45 million in cap space, and clear a path for some younger RBs to get some playing time.

Buffalo Bills WR Mecole Hardman Jr.

The Bills also have a surplus of wide receivers with 14 players at the position heading into camp.

DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, and rookie Skyler Bell are the locks to make the roster, leaving Mecole Hardman Jr., Tyrell Shavers, Trent Sherfield, Mac Dalena, Stephen Gosnell, Quentin Skinner, and Jalen Virgil plus rookies Ja’Mori Maclin and Max Tomczak to compete for one, maybe two spots.

Hardman hasn’t made much of an impact since he was with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021 (59 receptions, 693 touchdowns, and two touchdowns), and given the logjam at WR it’s unlikely he sticks in Buffalo.

Sam Franklin Jr., S

The Bills revamped their secondary this offseason, adding Super Bowl champion safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Geno Stone to the mix.

Cole Bishop is an unquestioned starter, and one of Gardner-Johnson or Stone presumably will get the other spot. Buffalo also has Damar Hamlin, 2026 fifth-round pick Jalon Kilgore, and Wande Owens on the roster as well, leaving Sam Franklin Jr. as the likely unlucky roster cut.
