Training camp is officially underway for several NFL teams while others will be easing into camp throughout the next week.
The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers kick off the 2026 preseason with their Hall of Fame Game clash on Thursday, Aug. 6 on NBC, and Week 1 of the preseason officially kicks off the following week on Aug. 13.
As we count down the days until the start of the NFL regular season — which kicks off with a Super Bowl LX rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots on “Sunday Night Football” on Sept. 9 — we continue to look at key offseason storylines for each of the league’s 32 teams.

This week, we’re looking as the players most in danger of being cut during the preseason, and we’ve arrived at the Atlanta Falcons.
Jahan Dotson, WR
The Falcons caught some heat early in the offseason when they signed Dotson to a two-year, $15 million contract with him coming off the two worst seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Dotson scored just one touchdowns and totaled 19 and 18 catches, respectively, during that stretch, and some feel he wasn’t worth the $15 million gamble Atlanta took on him.
With rookie third-rounder Zachariah Branch and veteran Olamide Zaccheaus in the mix, it’s possible Dotson could be Atlanta’s WR4 by the season opener. Paying him $5 million to fill that role may be too rich for the Falcons’ blood, and they could cut ties with him quickly so they’re not on the hook for his $10 million salary the following season.

...
Charlie Woerner, TE
The Falcons have five tight ends on their roster right now, and it’s likely one or two of them don’t make it through the preseason. Kyle Pitts is the unquestioned TE1 with former Pro Bowler Austin Hooper backing him up, leaving Woerner, Joshua Simon, and Jack Velling to battle it out for the third spot.
Of those three, Woerner is the most expensive ($4.75 million), which puts a big target on his when the team starts making roster cuts.
Clark Phillips III, CB
Like tight end, cornerback is another position the Falcons have plenty of depth at. A.J. and Avieon Terrell are locks for the opening-day roster, as are Billy Bowman Jr. and Mike Hughes.
The team has several veterans hoping to catch on including C.J. Henderson, Darren Hall, Darnay Holmes, and Mike Ford Jr. plus several undrafted free agents its collected over the last few years including Malcolm Dewalt IV, Cobee Bryant, A.J. Woods, and Natrone Brooks.
Phillips III carries a $3.6 million salary, and with the amount of depth Atlanta has at CB, it might make sense to part ways with him and save a little cash in the process.
