The Washington Commanders dropped to 1-4-1 on their 2026 NFL season with a "Monday Night Football" loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6.

After going into the halftime break trailing 20-3, quarterback Jayden Daniels and his injury-ridden Commanders team nearly fought all the way back at Levi's Stadium. However, the unbeaten 49ers were ultimately able to stave off the comeback with a 23-17 final score.

Following this brutal start to the season, ESPN broadcast personality Stephen A. Smith believes it's time for the Commanders to part ways with head coach Dan Quinn.

"It's over for Dan Quinn. This is it," Smith said during Tuesday morning's episode of "First Take."

Quinn went viral on social media after a moment of apparent confusion in the second quarter of Monday night's game. The Washington head coach appeared to call for a field goal attempt after Daniels threw the ball away on fourth down deep in San Francisco territory.

This botched play comes just one week after the Commanders' bone-headed play that resulted in a Week 5 tie with the New York Giants.

Quinn insists that he knew it was 4th down on Monday night.

"I definitely knew it was fourth down," Quinn told reporters postgame. "We were going for it."

The Commanders will now regroup and evaluate their position as they enter their Week 7 bye.
