With just 24 hours until the 2026 NFL Draft, the smoke around Ohio State star Sonny Styles has been building for weeks.
The New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, and Chicago Bears have all been commonly linked to the versatile defender, while recent intel suggested New York might even pivot toward offensive weapons like Jordyn Tyson at No. 5 overall.
But just as draft boards begin to lock, Styles himself may have shifted the narrative.

Speaking with SNY’s Niki Lattarulo on Wednesday, Styles strongly endorsed the Giants, specifically new head coach John Harbaugh.
"Coach Harbaugh is awesome, they've got a great organization. That was a great hire. It would be an honor to be able to play for them," Styles said. "I've got a lot of respect for Coach Harbaugh, Coach Bush, the DC...the whole staff. They're awesome. The Giants is such a big brand. They have a lot of history of being a great team. I'm sure Coach Harbaugh is going to get them back there."

When the Giants hired Harbaugh on January 20, 2026, it signaled a philosophical shift.
One of the NFL’s most accomplished coaches, he built a powerhouse with the Baltimore Ravens, highlighted by a Super Bowl victory (XLVII), multiple AFC Championship appearances, and a reputation for consistently elite special teams and defense-first football.
Over his tenure, Baltimore routinely ranked among the league’s best in defensive efficiency and adaptability, developing hybrid defenders who could blur positional lines.
That’s where Styles fits perfectly.

At 6-foot-5 with safety-linebacker versatility, Styles projects as exactly the kind of chess piece Harbaugh has historically maximized.
In modern NFL defenses, where offenses weaponize space and mismatches, having a defender who can cover tight ends, play downhill in the run game, and rotate in complex coverage shells is invaluable.
That's why Styles' comments are drawing so much attention, especially with the Giants being one of the most unpredictable teams in the top five.
Their needs span multiple positions, and their draft strategy has been described as wide open, ranging from wide receiver to defensive reinforcements.
This late development doesn’t guarantee anything, but it sharpens the spotlight on New York’s decision at No. 5.
