Sanders was under duress the entire time, playing with an offensive line that led to him being sacked five times. The young rookie did hold onto the ball for too long, but those are the kinds of mistakes that first-year players often make.
Regardless of all the controversy and wonder about what might happen to the Browns, Sanders is likely to stay on the roster, and he has spoken out about his first preseason with the team.
In a social media post, Sanders stated:
"Thanks everyone for the love and support. There's a lot to learn from this preseason, but I'm really thankful for the opportunity to be out there. Day by day, rep by rep, I'll keep learning and getting better."
Sanders has taken the high road in many instances when being questioned about outside noise, and he has taken everything in stride through various interviews. His confidence on staying on the roster was one of the only times he has sounded assured through training camp and preseason.
Even if the Browns do make good on keeping all four quarterbacks on the roster, Sanders will be the fourth string. He had a decent preseason showing, but one that he will certainly have to learn from to take the next step in his young career.
