It is well known that Shedeur Sanders is the most polarizing player in this year's NFL draft at this point.

While quarterback in general is typically all over the place in mock drafts and prospect rankings given the volatility of the position, Sanders has experienced extreme variance in opinion during the pre-draft process.

The young QB out of Colorado could go as high as second overall to the Browns, or as low as the second round.

In a mock draft on CBS Sports from Kyle Stackpole, Sanders falls to the Pittsburgh Steelers at pick no. 21, who are currently waiting on a veteran quarterback to sign but could also easily draft a quarterback in the draft.

Sanders could make a lot of sense for Pittsburgh, whether they sign a guy like Aaron Rodgers or not.

He is a tough quarterback who will need a good team around him to thrive as he develops given his lack of incredible arm talent or athleticism.

With new wide receiver DK Metcalf lining up opposite George Pickens, the team has some good weapons.

With some added pieces to the offensive line and at running back later in the draft, Sanders could have a great situation around him in year one.

For the Steelers, if they are serious about contending this season, Sanders may not be the best pick, but from a long-term perspective, it is a no-brainer.

Based on reports, it seemed like the team wanted to resign Justin Fields to be their long-term quarterback, so with him leaving for the Jets, they are now in need of a young replacement.

That being Sanders at 21 seems unlikely, but picking a quarterback at some point in the draft definitely isn't off the table.

Needing a quarterback to start right away from the draft seems like the worst-case scenario at the moment for the Steelers, which would make Sanders the best option in that scenario.

As long as Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson remain unsigned, rumors about the Steelers drafting a quarterback will continue to circulate.

They would certainly rather start a veteran to try and compete with the Bengals and Ravens in the division, but they may not have a choice based on who is available to sign as the draft approaches.

While it is unlikely Sanders falls to the Steelers in the first round, it would be hard to imagine they'd pass on him if that were to happen, even if they signed a veteran quarterback and had more pressing needs to fill.
