Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is injured, and head coach Mike Macdonald just revealed his status for the team's upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals.

On Wednesday, Macdonald announced that Darnold has a quad injury and will not play against Arizona on Sunday. Backup quarterback Drew Lock will get the start.

Darnold, who helped the Seahawks win the Super Bowl last season, has had his challenges this year. In seven games, Darnold has completed 60.2% of his passes for 1,478 yards, 10 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Sam Darnold Talks Struggles Against Bears

"Not our best tonight," Darnold said after the game, per John Boyle of Seahawks.com. "Offensively, I feel like we couldn't get anything going. We had a couple of good drives. I feel like early on I had a third down where Jax was there, and I should have gotten it to him early. Credit to those guys. They had a good plan and executed at a high level, but again, there was a lot of things that we can do better and need to do better moving forward."

Darnold signed a three-year contract with the Seahawks last year after spending the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings. The 29-year-old also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers (2023), Carolina Panthers (2021-22), and the New York Jets (2018-20) in his NFL career. Along with being a Super Bowl champion, Darnold was named to the Pro Bowl in 2024 and 2025.
