The Seattle Seahawks’ Week 11 bye could offer additional recovery time for their injured quarterback.

It also creates a decision to watch for a team that enters Sunday at 4-4 and needs to avoid losing ground.

Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold, already out Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals with quadriceps and rib injuries, is in danger of missing the Nov. 15 visit to the Las Vegas Raiders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Sunday report cited league sources.

Darnold could still try to return against Las Vegas, Schefter reported. Missing both games would give him three weeks to rest before Seattle’s Week 12 divisional matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.

Schefter reported that Darnold cracked a rib on the second play of Monday’s loss to the Chicago Bears and later injured his quadriceps. The possible extended absence adds another complication to Seattle’s quarterback situation.

Backup quarterback Drew Lock will start against Arizona despite an elbow injury that limited him in practice all week. Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald discussed Lock’s practice workload Friday.

“We've had to manage it,” Macdonald said. “More precautionary than anything else, without getting into all the specifics, but it's something we've had to manage.”

Lock previously filled in for Darnold in Seattle’s Week 2 win over Arizona, completing 73.1% of his passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns. That gives Seattle a successful recent example against the same opponent.

The Seahawks also have been giving third-string quarterback Jalen Milroe extra practice work. Their offensive line is shorthanded, too, with left tackle Charles Cross and guard Quenton Nelson ruled out against Arizona.

Seattle’s offense struggled to sustain drives in Monday’s 34-17 loss, going 1-for-11 on third down and 1-for-4 in the red zone. The Seahawks need better execution while navigating uncertainty at quarterback, whether Darnold’s absence lasts one game or two.
