Rex Ryan hasn't coached the New York Jets in over a decade, but the boisterous analyst didn't take kindly to Ashton Jeanty questioning their defense before Sunday's game.
Earlier this week, Jeanty claimed that Jets defenders "don’t really want to tackle." Ryan strongly disagreed with the Las Vegas Raiders running back's assessment.
During Sunday NFL Countdown, Ryan showed game film of All-Pro linebacker Demario Davis, who played under Ryan in New York.

"Is this kid a joke or what?" Ryan asked of Jeanty. "Does he not look at the tape?"

...
On the other hand, Ryan questioned Jeanty's toughness as a runner.
"You know what else I see? How about Mr. Tiptoe through the tulips," Ryan declared. "Avoiding contact. This guy's soft as Charmin."
Ryan would have sent Jeanty an emphatic pre-game message if he still coached the Jets. The defensive specialist feels the 2025 first-round pick has fallen significantly short of expectations.
"I'm going right up to him and I say, 'Listen, young man. I heard what you said. And I want you to know something. We are not going to try to take you out of the game.' I want him to know that we are not going to try to take him out of the game," Ryan said. "Why? Because you are horrible. You are about the worst draft pick of the last 20 years, I think, as a running back. You stink. You’re averaging 3.1 yards a carry. And today, you get your [expletive] kicked."
Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak also might not have appreciated Jeanty's pre-game comments about the Jets. Jeanty has ceded nearly all the carries to rookie Mike Washington Jr. in Sunday's shootout at MetLife Stadium.
