The Baltimore Ravens are attempting to make a deep playoff run in 2024, and they have made plenty of moves to ensure that. However, the team has made a rather confusing move by waiving Pro Bowl defender Yannick Ngakoue.

Ngakoue has been waived to make a roster spot for Keaton Mitchell, who is making his debut after suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2023. Ngakoue is expected to be resigned from the Ravens' practice squad, but that is not guaranteed.

When proven veteran players end up on the waiver wire, a position-needy team could swoop in and sign that player. Though the Ravens are expecting to sign Ngakoue, don't be surprised if he is taken by another team that needs pass-rush help.

Ravens DE Yannick Ngakoue

...

Ngakoue has spent nine seasons in the NFL. During that time, he has secured 70.5 sacks and 229 total tackles. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2017 as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he secured six forced fumbles, 12 sacks, and 30 total tackles.

Ngakoue appeared in nine games with the Ravens in 2020, when he was traded by the Minnesota Vikings. In nine games, he secured three sacks and 11 total tackles.

In 2024, he was signed as a member of the Ravens' practice squad. He was elevated for Week 6 when the Ravens took on the Washington Commanders, and he secured a sack against Jayden Daniels. He was then signed to the active roster on Oct. 15.

As stated, the Ravens are expected to sign Ngakoue back to their practice squad, unless another team comes in and signs him.

Mitchell, on the other hand, is expected to play against the Bengals on Thursday Night Football. Mitchell has not played since tearing his ACL in Week 15 of the 2023 season.

Though it typically takes around a year to recover from the injury, Mitchell has a chance to suit up tonight. Despite his injury, Mitchell had secured 396 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and 93 receiving yards. The dynamic rookie was looked at what could be a three-down back, but the knee injury knocked him out of action.

The Ravens already have Derrick Henry as their lead back, and he has been fantastic through the first half of the 2024 season. However, adding a rotational young talent in Mitchell will help elevate Baltimore's offense even more.

The Ravens are facing the Bengals on Thursday Night Football in an important divisional matchup that can help Baltimore close the gap on the Steelers for first place in the AFC North.
