The Los Angeles Rams have won two straight to climb back to .500, but their pass-rush hasn’t kept pace.

LA ranks 26th in the NFL with just 12 sacks. That could change on Sunday.

Rams star defensive end Myles Garrett will return against the Washington Commanders after missing the last seven games with a knee injury, head coach Sean McVay said Friday. The Rams have since activated the two-time Defensive Player of the Year off injured reserve.

And he won’t be eased in much.

“Rams star edge Myles Garrett is expected to return to action Sunday against the Commanders — and he could play a significant role,” The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero wrote. “Expect Garrett to play on most passing downs and potentially work in on early downs, depending how he’s feeling in his first game since undergoing knee surgery after Week 1.”

It’s been a rocky start to Garrett’s Rams tenure.

Los Angeles Rams DE Myles Garrett

...

Los Angeles acquired him from the Cleveland Browns in June for edge-rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-rounder, and a 2029 third-rounder, then handed him a five-year, $208 million contract.

However, a knee issue kept him out most of training camp, and Garrett finished without a tackle in the Rams’ 27-7 season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. He called it “the worst version” of himself afterward, then underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in mid-September.

That’s a far cry from last season, when Garrett set the NFL single-season record with 23 sacks.

“I’m happy to be back and make the most of my time off and the rest of the time I got,” Garrett said this week.

Sunday will also mark the first time Garrett shares the field with three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, who ended a two-year retirement this summer. The duo were expected to form a deadly 1-2 pass-rushing punch. Sunday will be their first chance to wreak havoc together.
