The knee of Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers took a turn for the worse this week. The status of the tight end has been up in the air as the 1-3 Raiders prepared to travel to play the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

With Michael Mayer ruled out for a concussion, the offense is already short at tight end regardless of Bowers' status. As of Saturday, Bowers was trending toward being inactive to play Indianapolis in Week 5.

ESPN's Adam Schefter provided details about Bowers' injury. The second-year tight end has been dealing with a PCL issue and bone bruise since suffering the injury against the New England Patriots in Week 1. Despite doctors' advice to rest so he can fully heal, Bowers has been uncooperative, choosing to take the risk of further harm by playing in games.
"Raiders TE Brock Bowers has been playing through a PCL injury and bone bruise on his knee that has impacted his performance, per sources," Schefter posted on X. "Doctors have said the only way to recover from the knee injuries he suffered on opening day vs. the Patriots is to rest, which Bowers has been unwilling to do."
Bowers, a first-round pick in 2024, is a key member of the offense. He's the second-leading receiver on the Raiders, recording 19 receptions for 225 yards. Only wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has more (258) receiving yards through the first four games.
Bowers was unwilling to rest in the previous three games, but he might be more willing to listen to medical advice on Sunday after his PCL injury worsened this week.
With Mayer out and Bowers unlikely to play, the Raiders elevated tight end Albert Okwuegbunam on Saturday. The Raiders will need running back Ashton Jeanty to have another good performance against the Colts, like he did against the Chicago Bears in Week 4, to help open up things for quarterback Geno Smith in the passing game.
