Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL during the team's 16-13 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Eliminated from the playoffs and without their star quarterback, all eyes are on 2026 for the Chiefs. However, seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady suggested Mahomes doesn't have time to lick his wounds, he needs to start preparing for the 2026 season immediately.
"You've just got to put as much diligence into the rehab process," said Brady, who went on to win four Super Bowls after his injury. "I always feel like the faster you rehab, the faster you can get back to practicing the sport that you know you love. I think sometimes people will pace themselves. Instead of training mode, they're in rehab mode. I think you got to get through rehab mode as fast as possible, and then you get back to training mode."

Former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III took a different approach. While he's heard from sources that Mahomes wants to be ready for Week 1, he believes the Chiefs star quarterback should sit out the entire 2026 season while fully recovering.
"He should sit out the entire next season because of when his injury happened. It happened in December, which means, when September comes around next year, that will be nine months since he probably had surgery to repair his ACL. Most ACL injuries take 9-to-12 months to heal, but anyone will tell you its usually 12-15 [months] until you actually feel like yourself and normal again," Griffin said.
He also offered a warning to Mahomes' team, suggesting they shouldn't urge him back for the start of the 2026 season.
