The NFL issued a one-game suspension for Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson after he spit in the direction of tight end Brock Bowers during a Week 6 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders this past Sunday.
The incident occurred just before halftime, and resulted in Gardner-Johnson's ejection.
Gardner-Johnson formally appealed the one-game suspension. But on Thursday, the NFL announced that its decision will be upheld.

Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson, an NFL and NFLPA appeal-hearing officer, reviewed the appeal.
The Bills have their bye in Week 7, meaning Gardner-Johnson will be suspended for the team's Week 8 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
Gardner-Johnson issued a public apology following his actions this past weekend:
"I want to take a moment to address my actions and sincerely apologize to my opponent, my teammates, my organization, and everyone who supports me," Gardner-Johnson wrote. "My passion and competitive nature have always been a huge part of who I am, but I also understand that there is a line that should never be crossed. The gesture I made toward my opponent was inappropriate, unnecessary, and not a reflection of the respect I have for him or this game.
"There is no excuse for my actions, and I take full accountability. No matter how emotional or intense the competition gets, I have to hold myself to a higher standard."

Bills head coach Joe Brady said the team has no plans to release Gardner-Johnson following this incident.
