The Detroit Lions played a tremendous defensive game on Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. Their offense, however, struggled mightily.

Detroit was stopped five times on attempted fourth-down conversions and finished the game going a dismal 3-for-13 on third downs and 0-for-5 on fourth downs.

The team’s lone touchdown came on a 40-yard strike to wide receiver Jameson Williams in the first half. However, Williams made the ill-advised decision to jump on the goal post—a move the NFL has clearly prohibited—earning a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that pushed back the extra point, which was ultimately missed.

This will likely result in action from the league against Williams, as it has for several other players over the years when touchdown celebrations involve the goal post—a move the NFL has repeatedly warned players against.

Several seasons ago, star wide receiver Antonio Brown performed nearly the same celebration as Williams, leaping and holding onto the goal post before dropping to the ground. That may have influenced Williams, who has also previously mimicked Marshawn Lynch's iconic celebration. At the time, Brown was fined $11,576 by the league.

This isn’t Williams’ first run-in with the league, either, which could lead to a more substantial fine. He has previously been disciplined for off-field issues, as well as for touchdown and taunting celebrations—factors the league typically considers when determining the extent of a punishment.

Williams finished the game with four receptions for 88 yards and the only touchdown for Detroit, which was also just one of two total scores in the game from either team.

The Lions have now fallen to 6-4 on the season, and if the season ended after Week 11, they would be on the outside looking in when it comes to the NFC playoffs.
