An NFL legend has not been impressed with Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. this year.

Shannon Sharpe shared his thoughts on Penix while watching the Falcons versus Cincinnati Bengals game on Sunday. He said the Falcons should look for a new quarterback for next year.

"Falcons should be in the market 4 a QB," Sharpe wrote on X/Twitter. "He’s the 3rd or 4th best QB in a bad division."

Penix completed 20-of-31 passes for 162 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the 34-17 loss. The interception came when the Falcons were down 34-17 late in the fourth quarter.

Before sharing the post, Sharpe called out Penix's arm strength. He pointed out that Penix had a receiver open for a touchdown but underthrew him.

Will the Falcons Make a Change at Quarterback?

The Falcons currently have a 3-6 record, but Penix is not the main reason for the team's struggles. Heading into the Bengals game, the former Washington star completed 61.9% of his passes for 1,282 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions. Four of Penix's interceptions came last week n during the Falcons' 16-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On Sunday, the Falcons surrendered 388 yards against the Bengals, and 155 of those yards came from wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase. The Falcons also had 12 penalties, which led to multiple setbacks on both sides of the ball.

Penix is in his third NFL season, but it's his first with head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Ian Cunningham. While the Falcons still believe in Penix, it would not be a surprise if the team moves on from Penix and potentially drafts a new franchise QB for 2027.
