All in the last week, the Baltimore Ravens agreed to trade two first-round picks to the Las Vegas Raiders for defensive end Maxx Crosby, backed out of the trade after Crosby reportedly failed a physical, and were criticized by a majority of the NFL for reneging on the deal.
General manager Eric DeCosta told reporters on Wednesday he was “gutted” that the trade fell through, calling the entire situation a big regret.
And despite his emotional explanation of what exactly happened and seeming remorse for the drama that ensued, many aren’t buying what he’s selling.

“A lot of people around the league are saying Eric DeCosta is who we think he is,” Rich Eisen said. “He's a guy that you need to, you know, side-eye a little bit.”
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero added: “The reaction from other people within the NFL that I am getting is predominantly about how the Ravens pulled the rug out regardless of what their reasoning was.”
"One NFL general manager told me everybody involved in Maxx Crosby trade talks knew he would be out until June/July coming off meniscus surgery," NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe stated. "Consensus opinion I’ve got from NFL decision makers: Ravens got cold feet & it could impact how other teams work w/ BAL going forward."
DeCosta’s reputation league-wide took a bit of a hit, no question.
But he also now presumably has some damage control to do with his fan base — many of which were aggressive in their demands for his job for bungling the Crosby situation so badly on social media following his Wednesday press conference.

“Crosby didn't fail his physical. According to the Raiders, Ravens backed out and misrepresented a players health. #Ravens GM Decosta should be fired already,” one fan wrote.
“DeCosta is a lying sack of crap. He can say whatever he wants. Still say he did it out of spite for losing his center. He screwed that up by not picking up the 5th year option. [Decosta] should be fired for making soooo many dumb decisions in a short period of time,” another fan wrote.
“If this was cold feet, Decosta would’ve been fired immediately,” a third fan replied.
“Eric DeCosta needs to be fired expeditiously,” one user scoffed.
“If this is true and DeCosta balked, he absolutely needs to be fired,” remarked another user.
“Decosta needs to be fired by tomorrow morning. A complete embarrassment,” another fan exclaimed.
