One NFL writer suggested an unorthodox midseason trade between two playoff contenders involving an intriguing second-year player.
Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports predicted that the New England Patriots could trade TreVeyon Henderson before the Nov. 10 deadline. He called it a "calculated sell" for the defending AFC champions, who are 4-3 entering their Week 8 game against the Miami Dolphins.
"I think they could move off of TreVeyon Henderson," Sullivan said. "I think that their second-round pick in 2025, a big name coming out of Ohio State, hasn't really lived up to it so far. You're already starting to see him kind of going off to the wayside in this backfield a little bit."

Henderson has 57 touches in six games this season, but his role has diminished more in recent weeks. The 24-year-old has played 41 combined snaps over his last three games and received only three handoffs in last week's 30-24 loss to the Chicago Bears.

After averaging 5.1 yards per carry as a rookie, Henderson is down to 3.9 yards per rush in 2026. A young talent with big-play upside hasn't taken a run or reception more than 12 yards since Week 2.
As a result, Sullivan can see the Patriots dealing Henderson. He found a potential trade partner in the New York Giants, who recently cut Najee Harris and placed Tyrone Tracy Jr. on the injured reserve. Henderson would join Devin Singletary and fellow 2025 draftee Cam Skattebo, who responded to a Week 6 benching with 124 rushing yards and a touchdown in an overtime win over the Houston Texans.
"His vision has been something that's been critiqued so far this season, so I wonder if the Patriots do move off of this player," Sullivan said of Henderson. "A team that I think could be interesting in terms of a fit is the New York Giants. Obviously, it's been an up-and-down season in that backfield ... They've kind of had a revolving door in that backfield. Maybe you bring in TreVeyon Henderson to give a little pop."
Sullivan has the Giants sending a 2028 fourth-round pick to the Patriots for Henderson. It's a downgrade from what they spent on him last year, but Sullivan believes it's worth gaining an extra pick for a "descending" player.
