As the legal tampering window opens in NFL free agency, teams are wasting no time getting in touch with available players and agreeing to deals to fit their needs.

The New England Patriots have swung a deal for a talented pass rusher from a conference rival, agreeing to terms with edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones on a three-year, $39.5 million deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Jones will cash in during free agency after a strong season in 2025 with both the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens, who acquired his services in November. After the Ravens swung a blockbuster trade for star Maxx Crosby with the Raiders, the team was likely more comfortable letting go of the 29-year-old pass rusher.

Between his time with both the Titans and Ravens last season, Jones set career-highs with seven sacks and 24 QB hits. He should bring a major boost to the Patriots’ pass rush, which needed some help down the stretch of the postseason run.

Jones began his career as a third-round pick in 2019 by the Broncos and later spent time with the Seahawks. 2025 was a breakout season for Jones, and now, by cashing in with a Super Bowl contender, he will become one of the top options up front for Mike Vrabel’s defense.

He led all Ravens defenders with 47 pressures after he arrived in the trade, which will be hugely important for the Patriots next season. The Patriots tried to acquire Jones at the trade deadline last season, but were ultimately outbid. The price for him now might not match his career production, but Vrabel’s defenses have occasionally found diamonds in the rough.

The Patriots shouldn’t be done spending in free agency, and it might be wise for the team to use this time to sign star cornerback Christian Gonzalez to a lucrative extension as the market continues to be reset this offseason.
