Los Angeles Rams star defensive end Myles Garrett returned to limited practice Wednesday following left knee surgery, according to the team’s official website. His availability for Sunday’s game against Washington remains undecided.

Head coach Sean McVay planned to give Garrett roughly half his practice repetitions before evaluating how he responded. Garrett participated in individual pass-rushing drills during the portion of practice open to reporters, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“A lot of it is going to be predicated on his communication and feedback to us,” McVay said, “and then ultimately being able to see that, hopefully the expectation is he’s ready to rock this week.”

The limited workload gives the Rams a chance to assess Garrett on the field after seven missed games. McVay said the team would evaluate him daily before deciding whether to activate him.

McVay said the staff had tried to be “as diligent, as thorough” as possible before putting Garrett back on the field.

Garrett underwent surgery after the season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia. Los Angeles acquired him from Cleveland in June, bringing in the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year after he set a single-season record with 23 sacks in 2025.

McVay had outlined plans earlier this week for Garrett to practice. Wednesday’s update supplied a more specific workload and a look at how the Rams intend to handle his return.

“Just take it a day at a time,” McVay said. “Hopefully he has a great day today, and then we’ll see what tomorrow looks like.”

Quarterback Matthew Stafford welcomed the progress but described playing on Sundays as the goal ahead.

“Just happy that he’s feeling good enough to be out there,” Stafford said, “and feels like he can start to think about contributing to us on Sundays, which is the ultimate goal.”

Los Angeles is coming off its second straight victory. The Rams (4-4) visit the Commanders (2-4-1) on Sunday at Northwest Stadium.
