Recent UFL quarterback and league MVP Jack Plummer will try to find a niche in the NFL.

His chance first arrives on Friday with a workout for the San Francisco 49ers, according to KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson. Plummer also has a workout with the Miami Dolphins the following week, Wilson reported.

Both teams have varying needs for quarterback depth. However, Plummer could make a push for the third quarterback spot with either team.

The Niners are Super Bowl contenders with Brock Purdy as the starter and Mac Jones as the main backup. After those two, the 49ers have Kurtis Rourke and Adrian Martinez.

Rourke doesn't have any regular season experience, and Martinez appeared in one game last season. Martinez notably has UFL experience from 2024 as the league MVP and champion with the Baltimore Stallions.

Therefore, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has a clear picture of what a top UFL quarterback could do in the NFL. Martinez only had minimal NFL experience before the UFL, with a short-lived stint with the Detroit Lions in 2024.

As for the Dolphins, Malik Wilson is the starter for a team in transition, and Quinn Ewers is the main backup. Then, the Dolphins have Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski — two former collegiate rival quarterbacks who have promise but not regular season experience.

Plummer could make a push with either team if his workouts succeed. Last season in the UFL, he threw for 2,188 yards and 17 touchdowns versus one interception for the Orlando Storm.

In college, Plummer tallied 9,728 yards passing for 68 touchdowns versus 31 interceptions in four seasons. He played for Purdue for two years, then one-year stints with California and Louisville.

Plummer piled on the yards in his last two collegiate seasons with 3,000-yard campaigns. Time will tell if his best play from college and the UFL can translate to the NFL.

For the Niners and Dolphins, kicking the tires on Plummer makes the utmost sense since neither team has substantial experience after QB2.
