A week after a frightening neck injury, Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell is still thinking about his teammates as he recovers in a Detroit hospital.

CBS sideline reporter Melanie Collins provided a pregame update Sunday, reporting that Campbell remained determined to play again. During a hospital visit earlier in the week, he asked Lions head coach Dan Campbell to look after the team until he could return.

Collins reported that the linebacker continued to improve. His message conveyed his hopes for a comeback, but neither that report nor his most recent public statement established a timetable for returning to football.

Campbell was injured while making a tackle on the first play of the fourth quarter against the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 1. He is a defensive leader and team captain and was hospitalized for evaluation of a neck injury.

In a statement released Nov. 4, Campbell said he had full movement in his lower body and was continuing to make progress with movement in his upper body. He thanked the medical personnel who treated him on the field and at Henry Ford Hospital.

“Please continue to keep me and my family in your prayers,” Campbell said. “We feel the love, and I can't thank everyone enough.”

Detroit placed Campbell on injured reserve Saturday. His absence takes an established defensive centerpiece off the field after a breakthrough 2025 season.

Campbell earned his first All-Pro selection last season, making the first team after recording 176 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles. He reached double-digit tackles in nine games and also earned his first Pro Bowl selection.

Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard described the team's response Thursday. After a meeting devoted to Campbell, Detroit's coaches and players committed to matching his preparation and effort in meetings, walkthroughs and games while he continued his recovery.
