A report came out on Sunday stating that the San Francisco 49ers attempted to trade for their former wide receiver Jauan Jennings ahead of the NFL trade deadline by speaking with him, but that the Minnesota Vikings player denied them as he was happy with his new team.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan addressed this report on Wednesday when speaking to reporters. He admitted there was some truth behind the report because he did in fact speak with Jennings, but not all the details of the report were accurate. Here's what he had to say.

“The report was accurate, just not totally exactly detailed," Shanahan said. "You can’t talk to players on other teams, you’re not allowed to. We love Jauan. We have such a good relationship with Jauan. I know him real well. We don’t want to do it without talking to him first. We had to agree on some things to at least make it close enough to talk to him.

"When we got on a FaceTime with JJ, it was awesome. He ended up saying he was happy where he was. It was not a definite 'no' at first, but he told me, ‘Kyle I’m happy here, I’m liking stuff.' When I heard the way he talked, and where we’re at, I agreed with him."

San Francisco 49ers, Jauan Jennings

...

Jennings spent the past five seasons with the 49ers before being picked up by the Vikings in free agency. He hasn't made a huge impact in Minnesota, though, as he's only caught 6 of 10 passes thrown to him for 54 yards and zero touchdowns. He posted 643 yards with the 49ers last season and 975 yards the year prior.

Despite not getting many targets in Minnesota, Jennings sounds really happy to remain there. He wasn't interested in having a reunion in San Francisco, at least not now.

The 49ers are still looking for a wide receiver to add to the roster ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday. Stars Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel are both questionable for this weekend's matchup versus the Las Vegas Raiders. Additionally, three receivers sit on the injured reserve list—Demarcus Robinson, De'Zhaun Stribling and Ricky Pearsall. Offensively, running back Christian McCaffrey is also questionable with a hamstring issue.

The 6-1 49ers need to find another target for quarterback Brock Purdy if they want to feel more ease about their roster moving forward. They look like a real Super Bowl contender, and they need receiver depth in order to continue looking like one.
