The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants have both been searching for a bell-cow running back ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.

Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor is at the top of both of their wish lists. However, Indy doesn’t seem to be keen on dealing the All-Pro runner.

But that isn’t stopping teams from calling the Colts to kick the tires on what it would cost to acquire the 27-year-old Taylor.

Though a handful of teams have been linked to Taylor in recent weeks, the consensus is there are two teams being the most aggressive in their pursuit of the former NFL rushing champ.

In fact, in their recent trade-deadline predictions, Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano and Eric D. Williams named both teams as where they think Taylor will ultimately land.

Vacchiano predicted the New York Giants will be the team to pry Taylor away from Indianapolis.

“I think the Giants are going to get him and it’s going to feel like they overpaid, even if they somehow do it without giving up a first-round pick,” Vacchiano wrote. “‘They’re thinking big,’ one source told me, and team sources have indicated the same to me. They’ll add a defensive tackle too, but the ones left probably won’t be big-ticket items. This will be their big swing.”

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor

However, Williams sees Taylor ending up with the Minnesota Vikings.

“Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell is under immense pressure to make Justin Jefferson happy and the offense work after a so-so performance by Kyler Murray through the first half of the season,” he wrote.

“And Minnesota general manager Nolan Teasley understands the importance a dynamic runner brings to an offense from his time with the Seattle Seahawks working for Scheider. The Vikings are the most desperate team playing in the most competitive division in the NFC North and make a move here.”

It’s clear the Giants are hot on Taylor’s trail. They reportedly offered second- and fourth-round picks for him before pulling the offer.

New York’s RB need has only grown with Cam Skattebo (hamstring) inactive for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Tyrone Tracy Jr. is on injured reserve with his own hamstring injury, which left Devin Singletary to start.

Conversely, Minnesota’s backfield hasn’t been much better. Aaron Jones is averaging just 4.2 yards per carry and Jordan Mason 3.9. The two combined for 42 rushing yards in the Week 8 loss to the Detroit Lions.
