Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden cleared the air on speculation that he was offered the New York Jets offensive coordinator job.
Gruden has been out of the league since October 2021, when he resigned as head coach of the Raiders following a leaked emails scandal.
Since leaving the NFL, Gruden has become a Barstool social media personality, covering football and providing his signature analysis.

Meanwhile, the Jets have been on a coaching rollercoaster, with a mass exodus of coaches after a disappointing 2025 season, leaving the offensive coordinator role open.

Gruden was the primary play-caller on offense when he took over the Raiders, and he had a successful spell overall, bringing a solid offense predicated on running the ball and play-action.
In the aftermath of his controversy, Gruden has been linked with a return to football, either in the NFL or college ranks, the latest being a report that he was offered the Jets offensive coordinator role, though he recently appeared on 95.3 WDAE to deny that he was ever offered a job by the organization.
“There’s a lot of reports we’re not going to get into. As you know, there’s a lot of stupid rumors out there," Gruden said during the radio interview.
"Some of these reports are ridiculous. Let’s just say there was never anything from the Jets… I wish them well in their search for a new offensive coordinator.”
Who are the New York Jets hiring?
According to the Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt, who reported the Jets' offer to Gruden, New York is interested in a veteran offensive playcaller who can help raise the floor on a team that failed to move the ball in 2025.
No matter who was under center, the Jets' offense looked horrible for long stretches. The unit needs an overhaul in talent and coaching, especially since head coach Aaron Glenn will be on the hot seat this next season.
Per Rosenblatt, there is a clear favorite for the offensive coordinator job.
"Now, the offensive coordinator job is open, and the Jets will have to go through the full process — including Rooney Rule requirements — to find a new play caller. Former Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich is considered a top candidate for the job, according to league and team sources," he wrote.
"The Jets also still have a vacancy at defensive coordinator, as well as other spots on Glenn’s staff, after a month of turmoil: Quarterback coach, offensive passing game coordinator, linebackers coach, defensive line coach and other defensive staff positions are all unfilled."
