Jon Gruden loves football.

What Gruden loves even more than football are people who commit their lives and souls to the game he adores the most.

He might not love any single player more than Philip Rivers, who today turns 44 years old on Monday and is reportedly on a flight to Indianapolis to possibly stage one of the wildest comebacks in sports history.

Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback Daniel Jones played on a fractured fibula the past two weeks before tearing his Achilles on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which ended his season.

Backup Riley Leonard, who came in for Jones following his non-contact injury, is currently dealing with knee issues and might not be able to suit up for a must-win game on Sunday against the 10-3 Seattle Seahawks.

The team’s other option, former first-round pick Anthony Richardson, is still out with an orbital fracture he sustained in October.

More news: Colts to Attempt to Bring Philip Rivers Out of Retirement

After the news that Rivers would be hopping on a plane to try and save his former team that he retired from in 2020, Gruden couldn’t help but show his support for the former Pro Bowler.

A father of 10, Rivers would instantly become one of the oldest quarterbacks to ever start an NFL game -- one year younger than record holder Tom Brady.

"I love Philip Rivers," Gruden posted on X on Monday night.

In his 17-year NFL career, Rivers threw for 421 touchdowns and was named a Pro Bowler eight times. His final game was on Jan. 9, 2021, when the Colts lost in the playoffs to the Buffalo Bills and then upstart QB Josh Allen.

Regardless of how this saga ends in Indy, Gruden will be watching and cheering for Rivers to prove the doubters wrong.
