What in the world is going on with Joe Burrow?

The Cincinnati Bengals superstar is a consensus top-five quarterback and one of the most popular athletes in North America.

After a season dealing with a significant Turf Toe injury that sidelined him for a majority of the season, he returned to a depleted Bengals team that had limped alongside him to a 4-10 record and was eliminated from the playoffs. When he has had superhuman performances this season, his team’s defense, ranked near the bottom of the NFL, has done nothing but let him down.

On his 29th birthday last week, he openly admitted that he had to find the “fun” in the sport again, or why was he ever suiting up? That led to one of the worst games of his career, in which he threw no touchdowns, two interceptions, and got shut out by rival Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.

More news: Joe Burrow, Bengals Receive Brutal News Before Ravens Clash

Today, at another local media press conference, Burrow’s melancholy, downtrodden tour continued, as he answered that he believes he will be the quarterback for the Bengals next year, but then stunned reporters with the next question.

A journalist asked whether he ever thought about putting on a different jersey and playing for another NFL franchise.

"You think about a lot of things,” Burrow replied.

This continues the strange saga of Burrow with the Bengals, which, only a few short years ago, seemed destined to resemble Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs. Instead, injuries, poor drafting, and a shambolic defense have left Burrow distant and cold, far from his usual charismatic, confident self.

While guaranteed over $47 million per season for the next four years, if Burrow ever became available, it might ignite one of the largest trade sweepstakes in NFL history.

For now, though, the Bengals hope the sun of Miami will cheer Burrow up, as the Bengals and Dolphins will battle this week in a contest between two eliminated teams, both dealing with their own respective quarterback issues.
