Jim Harbaugh isn’t buying a Los Angeles Rams defender’s harsh read on his quarterback.
Rams safety Quentin Lake mocked Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert on the “St. Brown Podcast,” which Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown hosts alongside his brother, Equanimeous. Lake intercepted Herbert once in the Rams’ 24-9 Week 8 win.
Lake was laughing as he described the matchup.

“I mean he was throwing deli meat out there. He’s seeing ghosts,” Lake said. “I don’t know what’s going on but like, we knew we were going to get a couple. At least one.”
Harbaugh didn’t share that view when reporters asked him about it.
“As far as anybody else’s opinion, I don’t see that. Everybody’s entitled to their opinion,” Harbaugh said. “It’s not what I see.”
The coach said Herbert “did his job exceptionally well” through the air, though he admitted there were “two throws he would have liked to have back.”
Asked about the podcast, Herbert said he hadn’t caught Lake’s remarks.
“I haven’t looked into it. I haven’t heard anything about it, so I can’t make a comment about it,” Herbert said.
Some numbers back up Lake’s jab. Herbert’s 10 interceptions top the NFL, and he’s thrown one or more in all seven games.
His 32.6 QBR sits dead last, a tough spot for a onetime Offensive Rookie of the Year with two Pro Bowl nods.
Herbert threw for 257 yards in the loss, yet the Chargers went without a touchdown for a second consecutive week and dropped to 0-7.
Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s system hasn’t helped. Harbaugh has stood by McDaniel, who arrived after the Miami Dolphins fired him.
Chargers games haven’t produced much offense all year. The team scores a league-low 14.1 points per game, and its 2,018 total yards are the second-fewest.
Week 9 gives Herbert and the Chargers their next crack at a first win.
