The New York Jets lost to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in blowout fashion, and to make matters worse, quarterback Justin Fields was injured in the game.

In the fourth quarter, Fields was taken down by Joey Bosa and the back of his head appeared to bounce off the ground on impact. He exited the game and after going to the medical tent, he returned to the locker room with the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant later, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo,

Fields was reportedly being evaluated for a concussion, but after the game, Aaron Glenn confirmed Fields' injury status. Glenn noted during his press game press conference that Fields was in concussion protocol during his postgame press conference.

Fields must now follow a five-step process before he can play in an NFL game again. The Jets' next game is next Sunday, so at least Fields will not have to try and recover on a short week.

Fields will have to clear some hurdles to return to practice before he can even be cleared for a game. The backup quarterback is veteran Tyrod Taylor. Taylor went 7-for-11 for 56 yards and a touchdown in the Jets' loss.

Taylor actually outperformed Fields' passing on Sunday, but the situation the Jets were in at the time he came in played a role. When Taylor came in, the game was already out of reach, and the team was essentially forced to pass every play.

All eyes will be on Fields' practice status as the Jets prepare to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week.
