Sunday was a particularly notable day for the New York Jets' 2027 NFL Draft outlook, as all three teams involved in last year's blockbuster trades suffered defeats.

The Jets fell 38-33 in a thriller against the Las Vegas Raiders at MetLife Stadium, while the Indianapolis Colts were embarrassed 42-7 by their division rival Jacksonville Jaguars. The Dallas Cowboys also suffered a heartbreaking defeat, blowing a late lead before losing 33-30 to the Arizona Cardinals in overtime. New York is now at 2-6, Indianapolis is 2-6, and Dallas is 3--5, putting all three franchises near the bottom of the league standings.

Interestingly, the Jets now have an opportunity to benefit from everybody's struggles. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, New York would currently hold the No. 5, No. 6, and No. 10 overall picks in April's 2027 NFL Draft. If that holds, it would mark the first time in the common draft era that one team has held three top-10 picks in the same year.

More news: Ravens Hit With Blunt Assessment After Costly Loss to Buffalo

The Jets acquired those two additional first-round picks through separate blockbuster trades at the deadline last season. First, they sent two-time All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Colts in exchange for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and Indianapolis' first-round picks in 2026 and 2027. Then they traded three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to Dallas for defensive tackle Mazi Smith, a 2026 second-round pick, and the Cowboys' 2027 first-round pick.

At the time, both the Colts and Cowboys believed they'd won the trade, adding two established defensive stars that could help turn them into immediate playoff contenders. However, neither team has made much progress, and Indianapolis is already blowing things up, firing longtime general manager Chris Ballard, trading away cornerstone players like Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, and potentially moving off franchise player Jonathan Taylor too.

With both Dallas and Indianapolis seemingly heading in the same direction as New York, the Jets stand to benefit the most of all three franchises. They may have sacrificed some immediate defensive production, but they're now in a position to add three potential cornerstone players, or trade up to get the best player in the 2027 draft, without having to give up anything else.
