The Dallas Cowboys missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season, marking Brian Schottenheimer’s first year as the team’s head coach.
While roster construction is ultimately the responsibility of owner and general manager Jerry Jones, and overall team performance falls on Schottenheimer, the defense was the biggest issue this past season. Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus became the scapegoat and was fired after just one year.
As the Cowboys head into a crucial offseason, there’s a sense of urgency to bolster the defense. Their search for a new coordinator appears to be over, as the team is reportedly “working to hire” Philadelphia Eagles passing game coordinator and secondary coach Christian Parker, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Parker has spent the past two seasons under highly respected and successful defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Parker is just 34 years old and is considered one of the rising stars in the coaching world. Over the past two seasons, he helped lead one of the NFL’s top defensive units, contributing to a Philadelphia Eagles team that won the Super Bowl in 2024–25 and returned to the postseason this year before falling in the first round to the San Francisco 49ers.
A former wide receiver and cornerback, Parker began his coaching career in 2013 at Virginia State, then moved to Norfolk State two years later, followed by stints at Notre Dame and Texas A&M. He eventually reached the NFL, coaching with the Green Bay Packers and the Denver Broncos for a season under Vic Fangio before following Fangio to Philadelphia.
Now, the Cowboys hope they have found their next defensive coordinator in Parker, aiming to turn around a defense that ranked among the worst in the NFL this past season.

Jones cited the Cowboys’ secondary as the biggest area of concern at the end of the season, noting what the defense needs to correct. The team even released former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs as part of that process.
Parker, however, specializes in working with defensive backs and reportedly impressed during the interview process. If everything continues as expected, he’ll be on the sidelines next season alongside Schottenheimer and the rest of the coaching staff.
